Life in Aberlady seems to revolve quite heavily around cake. With this in mind we were thrilled that we have a new, and very close, place to go for tea and cake. The Old Bakehouse Tearoom just opened this month.
The very friendly owner of the craft shop, Anne, has recently refurbished the craft shop and converted part of the shop to a cafe. The shop and tea room is very close to us, no more than a 2 minute walk.
We had our first visit this week and were very impressed. The decoration has been done very nicely and wooden tables and chair and even a salvaged pew have been used for the cafe.
There was a selection of cakes on offer and fruit and cheese scones are freshly baked each day, and gluten free scones are available too (although they tend to look more like muffins).Home made G/F shortbread biscuits are also available. Home made soup and a roll is also offered.
You can have your cake with either tea or Cappuccino, Latte, Americano, Mocha or Hot Chocolate.
We had a light, yet moist chocolate cake and a zingy lemon cake, coffee and tea. The cakes had definitely been homemade and seemed very fresh and the coffee had a big thumbs up from my mother. The kids loved it too and were very impressed with the clangers.
